Addiction treatment in Texas, in 26 TAC 562.1, is chemical dependency treatment: a planned, structured, and organized chemical dependency program designed to initiate and promote a person's chemical-free status or to maintain the person free of illegal drugs. It includes the application of planned procedures to identify and change patterns of behavior related to or resulting from substance-related disorders that are maladaptive, destructive, or injurious to health, or to restore appropriate levels of physical, psychological, or social functioning.
What is addiction treatment
A licensed chemical dependency counselor is licensed under Texas Occupations Code Chapter 504. The practice of chemical dependency counseling is providing or offering to provide chemical dependency counseling services involving the application of the principles, methods and procedures of the chemical dependency counseling profession as defined by the activities listed in the domains of Technical Assistance Publication Series 21. Texas Administrative Code Title 26 Chapter 562 holds the rules. The license does not qualify a person to provide services outside this scope of practice.
Dual diagnosis addiction treatment
The HHSC Friend and Family Guide names Co-Occurring Psychiatric Substance Use Disorder as a coordinated service practice that focuses on people who have conditions of mental health and substance use disorders. This coordinated care promotes concurrent treatment of best practices to assist these people with their recovery. Adult Substance Use Services lists co-occurring psychiatric and substance use disorders treatment services in the array. An LCDC is not qualified to treat a person with a mental health disorder.
Addiction treatment and counseling
The scope of practice for an LCDC includes services that address substance use or dependence and its impact on the service recipient. The counselor is prohibited from using techniques that exceed their professional competence. The service recipient can only be the person involved with substance use, a family member, or any other person involved in a significant relationship with a person involved with substance use. The focus of an LCDC's services shall be on assisting individuals or groups to develop an understanding of chemical dependency problems, define goals, and plan action reflecting the individual's or group's interest, abilities, and needs, as affected by claimed or indicated chemical dependency problems. An LCDC can diagnose substance disorders. LCDCs are not qualified to provide family counseling to an individual presenting problems that do not include substance use.
What an addiction treatment plan names
A treatment plan is an individualized, written plan developed and implemented through a collaborative process between qualified personnel and the client and reflecting and identifying desired treatment outcomes and strategies for achieving them. At a minimum, the treatment plan addresses the identified substance use disorder(s), as well as issues related to treatment progress, including relationships with family and significant others, employment, education, spirituality, health concerns, and legal needs.
How does addiction treatment work
Comprehensive Case Management Services supports adults and youth enrolled in intensive residential treatment by offering personalized case management. These services will help increase access and maintain engagement and retention in substance use disorder treatment. CCMS will provide linkage and connection to other resources - such as housing, health care, or job support. Coordination in accessing intensive residential substance use treatment. Support through case management for those waiting to admit into or currently enrolled in intensive residential treatment. Who is eligible: Texas residents 13 years of age and older; persons diagnosed with a substance use disorder; eligibility for state financial support is based on income, expenses, and other resources. In some cases, a person may be required to pay a portion of the services cost. CCMS is available at substance use treatment facilities offering intensive residential treatment.
